Week 2 Blog: Races
Week 2: Races
Big Question:
How can we support play that is exciting but not dangerous?
How can we make a race exciting between people who run at different speeds?
Monday Lab:
Thursday Lecture:
In this lecture we analyzed the lab that we completed and found the Science and Engineering Practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas, and Cross Cutting Concepts that we used in the labs. For the SEP we collecting data by measuring distance, gathering data on time, and conducting the investigation. The main DCI topics we used were measuring the motion, and predicted from those measurements where the racers would end up. Lastly, we examined the patterns of our races, compared them to the second group by recalculating their meters per second and conducted a second race. We than practiced with two more scenarios using meters, and miles.
Speed = Distance over Time
We want kids to be able to describe and predict motion, identify patterns, collect data about motions, and measure characteristics using standard units.
Weekly Reading:
Velocity vs. Speed
Speed = distance over time
Velocity = change in position over time
acceleration = change in velocity over time
how steep a line is = slope
Graphs help us represent patterns in motion
